Opus 5.5 is out, and the updates are exciting: Claiming performance comparable to Fable at a fraction of the price, it is priced even cheaper than Opus 5 (around 20%).
Among the remaining improvements, I’m personally excited to see them attempting clarity of responses, which would be a big quality of life upgrade. If performance really does get that close to Fable, then it is definitely worth taking a look. But, that’s not all, and supposedly we’ll see both Sonnet 5.5 and Haiku 5.5 in the next few weeks (also promising efficiency gains).
It feels like maybe the pricing pressure we’ve seen from open models the past few months is starting to show in Anthropic’s releases. A win for users and an exciting close to the season!
